War on Want Northern Ireland — Fighting World PovertyTanzania is one of the largest countries in East Africa and is one of the poorest countries in the world. 36% of the population cannot meet basic food requirements. Environmental degradation and HIV/AIDS contribute towards poverty levels.
War on Want NI began working in the Morogoro region in early 2007. The region has approximately 1.9 million people, 90% rely upon the land to provide food and income. The prevalence of HIV and the increasing numbers of orphans continues to be a problem.
Having started up its programme supporting 5 partners in 2007, War on Want NI, through support from Irish Aid, continues to grow its work steadily across the Morogoro region.
